Met one of my big goals today: Launched "Write & Sell a Well-Seasoned Romance," a step-by-step guide to create, edit, publish and market a sexy story about later life lovers. Most Romance readers are women after midlife; most Romance characters are young enough to be their children. If we want to be seen as the vibrant women we are, we need to make that happen. Let's subvert the dominant paradigm, one vivid tale at a time!
I’m inspired to stick to a better fitness routine and to eat more healthy food so I can age as gracefully as you and the women in the stories you shared. Thank you! I think my latest BHAG is actually not that big. But I wanted to slow down a little this year (I’ve been dealing with a lot, my mom has Alzheimer’s). I told myself I would try to get all my work done Mon - Fri (I’m a freelance writer), so I could have some me time every Friday. The funny part is, I manage to get the work done each week, but then somehow on Friday I still sit at my computer checking in on things. I was hoping to use the time for offline things… Hopefully writing this here will be the kick in the butt that I need!
I also moved from Colorado, Colorado Springs, to Oregon after living my entire life there. I moved to a small town on the southern coast for the beach walks and the change of lifestyle, and although I sometimes miss random city things, it has been one of the best things I ever ever done.
I also moved from Boulder/Erie, Colorado to Oregon! By happenstance. I didn't have a plan to stay but have stayed. 6 months in St.Johns neighborhood in Portland then 5 months in Humboldt neighborhood in Portland then 3 months in Ashland then 2 months in Jacksonville (charming there). Back to same little house in Humboldt in Portland. Yachats is going to be next for 6 months. I am searching for a place to land permanently. I have smiled almost everyday since being here. (Sold Colorado condo & got rid of 98% of stuff. Living lightly with my dog in mid-term rentals)
I was stunned to find a place for a few months in Yachats, in my budget that allows my dog. It seems like a gift from the universe. I really know nothing about the area except when I drove thru there, once, I thought to myself, riding up 101, "OH! This little town seems magical..." I also like Manzanita but could not find 'affordable to me' place to spent a few winter months...
I love this inspiring post, Julia. I agree that having goals is a great thing, even if they are scary. Change can be scary, but like the people you profiled, one must act anyway if one is set to achieve goals. The video clip you displayed is amazing. Chemotherapy years ago plus weight gain have affected my balance. I've been working out at the gym regularly and eating healthily. Maybe I can eventually balance on a BOSU ball.
Love that BOSU! Might get me one. And your BHAGs Julia.
Mine includes entering a women's sailing Regatta and knowing what the skipper's talking about.
And writing and self publishing 4 more books over next years.
Oh yes and the healthy eating thing, always.
Magnificent Jeannette!

I LOOOOVE Yachats. Wish I could afford it, but weekends there work just as well.

Change is the only constant in life. To fear change is to fear life. To embrace change is to embrace life.
Great post - has made me think!
