Wow, great color choices. You're inspiring me to finally do something with all the white walls in our house for over 20 years. We do have a beautiful red couch that I love. Also I haven't cut or colored my hair since spring of 2020. It is almost to my waist, and I have two wonderful white streaks in my hair starting just above my ears (inherited from my mother, the white hair, not the ears). I finally have the courage to wear my hair the way I want and not have to worry about looking professional for the office (I retired last year, woohoo).
Now that I've done it, it surprises me that I never did it before. I've always put gorgeous textiles up, wonderful art, the like, but for some reason I just took the house wall colors as they were when I bought the place and never did anything else. It makes such a difference!
Love this. I have basically the same color in what I pretentiously call my *reading* room (there are bookcases, a comfy chair and lamp and not much else because it’s really an oversized foyer). In the bathroom, my collection of eyeglasses, including one Apfel-inspired red and white polka dotted frames.
The living room is inspired by Morocco and the Hindu holiday of Holi.
Then there are the mannequins and spare hands, legs and torsos
It sure as hell is too short, Jodi. The paint job, which is very close to being finished as my handyman was here all day yesterday, transformed THE house into MY house. Such statements really make a difference.
Yes! Yes! Yes! 🙌 you have my taste, I enjoyed the options you considered and which you chose. I would’ve chosen the same. Apart from the three bathroom blues, where I liked the first and third. But I LOVE the final results!!! Your bedroom is so dreamy.
I love it! I look forward to reading and seeing more of these explorations. You’ve got great taste (in my opinion) and an eye for interior design. I even love the jaunty angle of the bed!
Love the colours! My office is sage green but we have a teal colour in my husband’s master bedroom and a deep blue in my attic bedroom. Thanks for sharing. 🫶🏻
You've given me the courage to try something bold. I'm going to repaint a couple walls from blah gray to something with depth. The problem is the emerald green carpeting the previous owner chose (Michigan State fans, they were in their 80s, can't imagine rooting for alma mater at that age, but hey, whatever floats your boat...) that seems to take over the room, hence the blah gray walls they chose.
Nothing is forever. If I make a mistake I'll choose a new color! Can't wait to step out of my comfort zone!
Thanks Nancy. I can't recall what made me think of that but I was casting around for a story idea and when I walked in to make the bed, boom. Yeah that. Those colors, wow.
Kristi, in 2022 I put a for-sale sign on this place out of sheer terror. Medium had gut punched me by dropping my four figure income to $27 a month and I didn't think I could keep the place. That said, it wouldn't sell (interest rates) and a realization that despite all the intense financial demands this place requires for upkeep, this is my dream home. Even if I only get to be here a few years, it will be worth it.
Looks like a dream home to me. All those trees out the window, sandy beaches nearby, and a dog. I'd come house & dog sit for you all the time while you travel!
That's not out of the question, Kristi. I will indeed be in the market. I"m working on the guest room as soon as the carpet goes in downstairs. That's June 3. I am slowly finishing this house to make it mine.
Love your paint choices! A former partner painted our dining room a deep teal-at first I was shocked... then I loved it. Now you've reminded me to check out paint samples! Excellent!
Susan, I have never painted a house of mine except to sell it, and then it was, you guessed it, white or oyster. This was such a gift, and it was about damned time. I ended up with some thirty four paint pots but it was a real education.
I invested in VERY BRIGHT leggings for workouts. Yes, a good pair of black pants is a closet staple, but what happens when we choose lime green? Damn. Precisely.

Many thanks. I wish my grey had come in that way, with racing stripes!
My house is full of color, and it always gives me joy when I walk in the front door.

It was quite the education, Sheila. And an exploration into what's possible and what I resist as well!

It was a real shift for me. Hard to clean back there but it's a lot more fun to look at.
Dust if you must! I think it’s worth the look. 💚

This was truly an experiment, Elaine. A lovely one, too. I had no clue the end result would mean so much.

I can’t wait to hear. Color is transforming!
LOVE that teal color (Juniper)!! And how smart of you to pair it with textiles from the opposite side of the color wheel -- looks stunning.
I honestly didn’t think the bedspread would work. I’d bought it long before hand and was quite surprised the contrast did indeed work out!
Wow 🤩
What a gorgeous way to model how to overcome resistance to change! You can literally feel the life in those rooms.
Thank you so much. This kind of courage is what we all need, at any age.
I think people like you are unsung heroes. Yes, you!

We could take a few lessons from the flowers and put a little more color in our living spaces.
You've done a great job that gives a feeling of calm and rest and isn't that what a home should be? A good lesson is risk/reward. Go for it!
So true Gary!
Julia, that wall with the fireplace rock looks STUNNING with that shade of blue. The color combination is so earth-and-water. Beautiful!
I've never been allowed to be brave with wall colors (always a renter)
Buy with clothing, anything goes.

Definitely keep me posted!! I can do my work from anywhere now so.....anything is possible!

I honestly need a kick in the seat of my black pants! I’m 65 and am wearing all black. Who and what am I hiding from?
