Ack!! I am SO sorry to hear about your illness, Julia. I wish we lived closer so we could help. Not sure if I mentioned that John is an anti-viral scientist. When he first saw the Genome for Covid years ago, he whispered, "Oh, shit. This is going to be really bad." After he studied it a bit, he predicted the pandemic would last at least 3 years, but more likely 5 years. People used to laugh at me and look at me with disbelief when I told them this (despite the fact he has patents for Tamiflu and some early AIDS drugs - the ones that kept people from dying, finally - as in, he is really good at what he does). Turns out, he was right. And yet, so many act as if Covid is not really happening anymore, including our most vulnerable populations. Often to their detriment, sadly. BTW, just read the government will be giving out free Covid testing kits again, in case you need one.
I am a NOVID due to all the precautions I continue to take plus all the vax. Also 65+ Also have had Epstein Barr virus in past, a risk for long COVID. Theres a new COVID vax just approved & out in days. It’s important to test if possible as you should not take the new vaccine for 3 months after you’ve had COVID. Important to know if flu or Covid tho I understand the difficulty. I’m guessing you might still test positive after the 3 acute days? Anyway this sh*t is serious when you’re at risk and even when you’re not. Thanks for the candor.
Kelly I am very hopeful I have a few kits in the fridge door. I'll look tonight and if so, now that I can focus and manage a Q-tip up the kazoo, can finally get it done. Thanks.
I’m seeing a LOT of symptoms with vertigo and dizziness this time around. I didn’t test but I’m pretty sure I had it again and I’m speaking to many of my clients, the brain/gut connection is a big thing this time.
Also seeing a lot of people test for everything that are not getting any definitive diagnosis. It’s pretty weird. And not at all pleasant.
Julia, COVID is a beast and your timely post is a stark reminder that as the weather cools, we are headed into flu season. I've heard from a lot of friends recently who have had COVID. I appreciate that you are speaking up about vaccines in a positive way. I'm traveling next month and had already decided to mask myself in the airport and on the plane. It's a small action that could be life-saving. As you point out, the accumulating years can make us more susceptible to pathogens. Health is both a gift and a responsibility. Take good care of yourself. Sending big hugs and healing vibes.
Ugh. If that was the Universe punishing you for not having empathy for the crying kid, I'm calling the Universe harsh. Glad you're getting back up on your hind legs -- and believe me, we are first in line to get all they shots they're handing out. This season's bugs sound truly fearsome.
Jan, I am trying to poke fun of my lack of empathy. I really hope he got well fast. Whatever it was, was just plain mean. Current COVID and serious flu are so closely related in symptoms that the ONLY apparent diff is in what order they appear. I honestly don’t know who’s noticing unless you have a caretaker watching. I’m going to go mine my fridge for a Covid test, hoping I find one.
Thanks Julia. This sounds like my experience of Norovirus. Unbeknown to me, and with no protection, I was sent by co workers with families to work in a ward they knew harboured the virus. I too live alone. Survival mode rings true. I thought I was dying and no one knew. No work colleagues kept in touch.
Boy that sounds familiar. My poor dog was out of her mind with frustration and I could barely let her out into the yard to go pee, much less go for a walk. Our new reality!
I was back on the Rogue for four days then came back with COVID. Nasty stuff this time around....and Mika now has to wear an "I'm in heat diaper." She is NOT happy as that means no dog park.....
Sounds pretty ugly. I was terribly sick with something nasty not that long ago as well.
May 15 to June 20th of this year. When I was in the middle of that industrial plant shutdown where we all worked for 13 hrs a day, 30 some days straight, we spent days on end working in tight quarters. Someone brought in a virus that hit with a sore throat so bad it felt like razor blades. I’ve never felt anything like it. We all got it, and we all came to work every day anyway. My lunch trailer was full of dudes hacking up a lung. The washrooms were full of guys pooping their guts out. It was ugly. There was no one who made it out healthy. I think it had to be a variant. None of us tested— too busy working. I sat in front of a computer shivering, updating spreadsheets and mainlining cold medication. The aches and chills lasted about 3 days and the cough a couple weeks. But there’s no calling in sick on a job like that. You just come to work and suffer or they replace you
I am so sorry and boy can I relate. Turns out I did have Covid. The test takes a lot of attention that I simply didn't have. Much better now but holy shit, no joke.
I also became ill at the beginning of the summer. Pretty sure it was Covid and it was way worse than any other flu virus I’ve had. It lasted two weeks; lost my sense of taste and smell for over a month. Then got sick again a month later with a nasty cough. Long Covid? Another virus? Whatever it was, it literally kicked my ass. Hope you feel better soon.
Julia, I'm sorry you were so ill. That truly sucks. And though I'm a mom, I totally understand why the child melting down got to you. Whining kids are irritating, though I do hope that the kid got over his illness OK. And though I'm a mom, I happen to overall think animals are better than people. There. I said it.
Like you, I believe in vaccines and get a flu vaccination every year. I have asthma, so I try to be careful about my health.
I had a once in a lifetime trip this summer to Japan. I got Covid the second day there and spent the rest of my vacation as a shivering wreck in a series of hotels. I was definitely feeling sorry for myself for the money and opportunity wasted.
Yes to vaccines! 💉 I totally agree! There are so many diseases that have killed our ancestors which we now have vaccines for and don’t even know what the disease is anymore. Thanks to medicine for keeping us safe 💚

Whoa, had not considered keeping them in the refrigerator, going to look into that.
Seems tp work. I just found an ancient one that worked just fine. And yes, I had COVID. No wonder .
Hugs. 🫶

It's probably unique for each of us which makes things a lot less easy, Bekah.
For sure. It’s definitely a challenge.

Thanks Stephanie. This bout was no joke and I am healthy, which many aren’t. No kidding around on this.

Egad. I keep mine up in my closet cabinet -- never thought to refrigerate them. Uh-oh.

Glad to hear you're recovering! I did notice you've been missing around here but thought you were probably on another adventure. Rest well!

OMG the dog shame lol.
Well, I’ve only had Covid once and I hope it stays that way lol. Worst flu feelings I’ve ever experienced.
Sounds pretty ugly. I was terribly sick with something nasty not that long ago as well.
