This was beautiful. Im 42 but after some health scares I’m all about staying healthy, not taking life for granted and chasing my bucket list moments before the sun goes down on me.
Aurora B also on my list and just saw them fit the first time on a bucket-list-y flight to France, from the plane. More recently I’ve thought of a trip to see them, thanks for the inspiration!
Welcome to Canada, we are happy you are here! (I live almost as far from the NWT as you can get and still be in Canada but still....it's all beautiful).
Donna, happily this isn't my first trip. I've spoken at conferences in Vancouver, explored BC ridden horses in the Muskwa-Kachika wildnerness, done workshops in Nova Scotia and spent WAY too much money in Nelson. This was my first foray into the far north. It's fabulous!
I don’t have a bucket list. When I was younger, there were things I wanted to do. Mostly travel related. I wanted to see everything there is to see. Over the years, as I’ve aged, I’ve given up on those things, accepting I’ll probably never do them. Whether it’s because of money, time, or physical ability. In 2016 I declared it my year of adventure and made a list of things I wanted to do; they weren’t bucket list items, nothing outrageous or ridiculous. And I didn’t do a lot of them. I keep saying I need to figure out, at 61, what do I want to do with the last chapter of my life. Maybe it’s time to make that bucket list.
I understand this. It takes work to make that commitment. Above all we have to decide we are worth the experiences and the effort and cost they demand of us. I recommend watching this:
On my list is a transatlantic cruise, planned for January. Miami to Portugal, France, Spain , Azores , ending in London. I’m looking forward to the 8 sea days, peace and quiet.
"A lens forever separates us from that magic." << I have felt this SO many times in my travel/writing days. Of course I wanted to capture everything but at the same time, there's more magic in just "being."
Several years ago I elected to take a float plane from Seattle (Kenmore, actually, north end of Lake Washington) to Friday Harbor out in the San Juan Islands at the north end of Puget Sound. It's an absolutely beautiful sight, and had a gorgeous day for it. On the way up I too got to sit "co-pilot", but my experience is limited to Microsoft Flight Simulator. On the way back I had the chance to do it again, but elected to let a tween travelling this way for the first time sit there instead. Let HER adventure begin early. :-)
Nothing like taking off in a float plane! I worked in Alaska years ago and they flew us around in a float plane to different parts of the island for work.
I’ve been looking at my bucket list a lot lately, and my 65th birthday is coming up in 3 months. And seeing the aurora is one of the things in that bucket. Hmmmmm……
Good for you 🙌 It’s on my bucket list too - what AM I waiting for !

YEs to that and thank you!

Yellowknife is one terrific place, so is Svlabard. Getting there is epic and wonderful!
Thank you!

Good for you, it’s all amazing! But Nelson! There is no place like it and luckily our son lives there.
I briefly entertained the idea of buying there. Too cold and too much snow, but so charming.

WOW. Thank you so much. So powerful.
Of all the stuff out there on this topic, hands down that is my favorite.

Good for you. For all of us. We are not promised tomorrow.
Oddly, nothing is in my list. I’ve done a lot, been a lot of places. LIVED a life. Nothing comes up but I’m gonna think on it.
Kelly, I find that if I do a bunch of reading of what other people have done sometimes that inspires me to think why not me???
I’ve always been a risk taker and done it all.
Some people wait until they’re older. I’ve been on an adventure since I was 15!
I can relate. I left home at sixteen and joined the Army at 21. It's been an adventure all right.
I had two babies by 19.

The San Juan Islands are on my bucket list!
I did the orca kayaking out there. Gorgeous.
