Neophilia- I like it! The trouble is when you’re addicted to an adrenaline rush , a ‘normal’ day makes me feel anxious.

Given my hearth-hugging tendencies, it's a damn good thing I don't have to fling myself out of perfectly good airplanes in order to stimulate my brain or it would have turned to cement by now. But your point on embracing novelty and avoiding the error of thinking the world, or your life, or anything else is supposed to be the way you expect it to be is well taken. And I have to ask: WHO is riding the horse in front of Samurai -- or is he the pace horse for the truck??

Love words, love a new word, and can attest to what you are saying! I've spent decades dealing with one crisis after another, have moved too many times to count due to military, family, divorce, work, etc., and even though I am a homebody at heart, all the constant changes have taught me to breathe and not be afraid.

My mother was a person who pretended to know it all and have things under control, but as she aged, she only became more neurotic because she (metaphorically) wanted a map and compass before she could walk across a room.

Well, unlike her, I learned and know at a deep level that whatever happens, I will handle it. So becoming unafraid is the key to living well. And making it through all the shit in life gives us the confidence to walk knowing that whatever comes up, we will deal with it and get to the other side.

I am teaching my adult daughter by example to follow my lead and not go into all the "what ifs." Her dad is anxious but won't admit it. I show her how to just move forward and stop borrowing trouble that might never come. Or as I like to say, "If you cross the bridge before you get to it, you have to pay the toll twice."

Thank you Julia - The next time I break into a sweat because I have to find my meeting link in my phone and send it to my PC and update the Zoom software so I can get to my meeting within 3 minutes of the start time, I will remember that I am working my brain.

Having done something like this WAY too many times, precisely, Elizabeth. When I get distracted by something in my house, then suddenly realize HOLY SHIT MY MEETING IS.....NOW and threaten to send myself sprawling over my sleeping dog.....yup.

Julia, even though I'm a bit of a Hestia when it comes to venturing out too far from home, I do love to hike and when I think about it, I've put on a lot of miles in many different places. Thanks for the shout-out -- there's never been a trail that didn't delight me or seem brand new (even in its familiarity) the next time I walked it. Adventures can be great or small, the important thing is to get out and engage with the land and the water wherever you are. ("Let's play," resonates strongly with me.) Thank you for sharing all of your adventures here, I love reading about them. Big hugs.
