I'm good with airplanes pretty much only because my son is an airline pilot (and also has his own, teensy, glass-canopy plane for fun). Otherwise, I'm the type who gave up skiing partly because I had such bad cramps in my HANDS. From clinging onto the chair lift bars. So IDK if hang gliding will ever be for me as my skittishness might make me dangerous to others — but I appreciate experiencing it vicariously!
Living in Costa Rica, I decided that for my birthday one year that I wanted to paraglide. I wanted to 'see' from above what I couldn't see on our mountain-side by being on the ground. I did a tandem, and it was absolutely wonderful! (as you say, the landing was a little eek-ground coming up fast made me a little sick.) It was still a wonderful experience and I'd do it again. It was my 52 birthday, and it was 6 days before the borders closed (unexpectedly) in March 2020 for the pandemic. When I finished paragliding, we went out to lunch and a sign at the restaurant said "You only live once." Yes, yes you do-and thank you Julia for being such an adventuring mentor! Like you say-dare yourself to do something amazing! Life's too short not to!
I want to try! Your writing inspires me 😁
Heartfelt thanks! Please do and then tell us about it!

Funny what some people call fun, others call terrifying. Vive la difference!
