Oh wow, Julia! What a story. What a life. I read this with such a big, goofy grin on my face. Not just because of all the wild and wonderful things you’ve done, but because of how fully you’ve claimed it.

This line especially landed with me: “The moment we realize that nobody is going to give us that gold star for killing ourselves, we’re free.”

Also — there’s something so moving about being read not just with attention, but with generosity. Thank you so much for that.

Such amazing life adventures, Julia. I read this feeling a little bit like, "wow, my adventures are so much smaller," but I don't think they are any less satisfying than your own. At seventy-three I am studying Homer's, "The Odyssey" with a retired professor of humanities and depth psychology from Pacifica; After years of going to an office every day, I've finally created a daily writing life that feeds my heart and my soul; I find joy and wonder in new forest trails and in kayaking with my posse. I may not scale mountains or travel the world, but I can honestly say, I'm am constantly creating the life that I love. Serving someone at the food bank can be just as fulfilling as reaching the north pole. I love to read about your realized passions. Not everyone's passions will be the same, but loving life and the living the life you create and choose is a big win in my book, however one goes about it. Biggest of hugs adventurous one.
